WHITEWATER REGION – The Township and account holders at the Beachburg Scotiabank Branch were informed in December of the impending closure of the branch effective June 2020.
Council felt access to banking services within the municipality is essential to the community. Whitewater Region council has asked that the closure be reconsidered.
A Save Our Scotiabank (SOS) Committee chaired by Joey Trimm has been formed and is bringing together partners to help with this important issue The bank has scheduled a town hall meeting in Beachburg on Jan. 28.
The SOS Committee said it has respectfully requested that Scotiabank postpone the meeting until early April so that the community has an opportunity to reflect on the tremendous impact the closure of the bank in Beachburg will have. The committee feels more time is required for the community to formulate their concerns and questions for the meeting and this information is necessary for them to make an informed decision on their options.
The Committee has prepared a survey to hear from residents on the closure. It is available on the Township of Whitewater Region’s website and in hardcopy at various locations in Beachburg including the community health centre.
Testimonials are also being sought from affected residents. They are encouraged to share their concerns and impacts with members of the committee.
These can be shared with Gwen Bennett email@example.com (or call 613-646-7238) or Bonny Johnson firstname.lastname@example.org (or call 613-312-0634).
A Facebook page was also created to share information on outreach efforts and to hear from those impacted.
