Equinoxe wins Renfrew County west Grade 7 girls' volleyball title

The Equinoxe Patriotes came from behind to beat the Champlain Dragons two sets to one in the Renfrew County west Grade 7 girls’ volleyball tournament held at Jeanne-Lajoie.

Equinoxe also beat the Dragons earlier, bumping Champlain into the second chance bracket because of the double-elimination playoff format, where they beat St. Mary’s to advance to the final.

In the playoffs, Eqinoxe also beat Rockwood, Our Lady of Sorrows and Cathedral Catholic School. In the round robin action, the Patriotes were undefeated and finished first in Pool A beating Valour Green 25-7, Highview 25-19 and Beachburg 25-6.

In the playoffs, Champlain beat St. Mary’s, St. Francis of Assisi and Valour Green. The Dragons finished second in Pool B following the round robin with a 2-1 record. They beat Rockwood 25-13 and Champlain 27-25, but lost to St. Mary’s 25-23.

In the playoffs, the St. Mary’s Stallions beat Beachburg and Our Lady of Lourdes before being defeated by Champlain. In the second chance bracket, the Stallions beat Highview and Rockwood before being eliminated by Champlain. St. Mary’s finished first in Pool B in round robin with three wins – 24-14 over Rockwood, 25-23 over Champlain and 25-15 over Cathedral.

In other playoff action, Sorrows beat Pine View, Rockwood beat Highview and Jeanne-Lajoie, Jeanne-Lajoie beat Valour White, St. Francis beat Mackenzie Community School and Lourdes beat Holy Name.

In the second chance bracket, Cathedral beat Pine View before losing to Lourdes; Highview beat Valour White and St. Francis before losing to St. Mary’s; Mackenzie beat Valour Green and Jeanne-Lajoie before losing to Sorrows; Holy Name beat Beachburg before losing to Sorrows; Sorrows beat Mackenzie then lost to Rockwood.

In round robin action, Our Lady of Sorrows finished in first in Pool C with three wins – 25-12 over Jeanne-Lajoie, 25-16 over Mackenzie and 25-7 over Holy Name.

Our Lady of Lourdes finished first in Pool D following round robin play with three wins – 25-23 over St. Francis, 25-17 over Valour White and 25-21 over Pine View.
